VACANCY: YOUTH OFFICER (PART-TIME) – UNITED NATIONS INTERNATIONAL
DECADE FOR PEOPLE OF AFRICAN DESCENT IRELAND (IDPADI)

Established in March * the Steering Committee
on the implementation of the United Nations International Decade for
People of African Descent ( *) in Ireland liaise
with members of the African Descent Community and other stakeholders
in the public and private sectors to establish and execute key
projects and activities during the Decade with the overarching aim of
empowering persons of African descent.

The SC liaises with Government Departments representing the views and
suggestions on behalf of the African Descent Community and gives input
on projects to be undertaken in the implementation of the Decade. The
Committee also ensures an effective voice for people of African
Descent that is acknowledged by the state, the political system and
other sectors (public and private) at local, regional, national and
international levels. The Committee informs and influences policy on
three key major areas required to be addressed in the Decade -
Recognition, Justice and Development of the people of African descent
in Ireland. It also monitors and evaluates achievements, successes,
outcomes and challenges.

We are excited to be recruiting for Youth Officer who are pivotal in
creating and supporting tailored activities for young people.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Youth Officer, your personality, experience and creativity will
be key in advancing youth engagement in the thematic objectives of
recognition, justice and development of people of African descent.
Through dynamic and versatile methods your responsibilities will
include:

* Participating and contributing to community meetings to help
develop strategies and solutions for issues that young people face,
including unemployment, housing or peer-to-peer violence
* Serving as a youth advocate to help young people communicate their
needs, plans and expectations at a higher level
* Managing organisation's resources, contacts and knowledge to
improve youth engagement
* Mobilise youth volunteers and plan events that focus on cultural
education, and social responsibility through the IDPAD Ambassador
project.
* Undertake a comprehensive mapping to identify gaps, needs, and
opportunities.
* Identify opportunities and link youth of African Descent to those
opportunities.
* Organising events and activities that promote young people’s
engagement in sports, crafts, and play-based activities at
after-school clubs, youth club, events, and off-site trips. You will
also coordinate their involvement in community programmes that promote
their social development.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:

* Motivated, creative, and empathic approach to tasks
* Enthusiastic to work with and support the development of young
people
* Ability to plan reliable activities and be confident to contribute
and collaborate with the team
* Previous experience in working with children and young people but
not essential
* Understanding of the issues and challenges facing people of
African Descent in the Ireland and across the diaspora.
* Experience in conducting research and producing reports.
* Experience of working with the African Descent Community and/or
voluntary groups.
* An organised approach and the capability to deliver to agreed
deadlines.

SALARY: Competitive
LOCATION: The position will be based in Ireland and working remotely.
